Eugene "Gene" Coleman, Jr.

Eustace Eugene "Gene" Coleman, Jr., a resident of Greensboro, Georgia for the past nineteen years, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the age of 90. He died at Heardmont Nursing Home in Elberton, Georgia. Born on June 29, 1935, in Barnesville, Georgia, Gene was the son of the late Sarah Frances Haralson Coleman and Eustace Eugene  Coleman, Sr. He pursued higher education, graduating from Gordon Military College and earning his bachelor’s of business administration degree from Georgia State College in 1962.He retired in 2000 after working as a cost accountant for Wellington Industries in Madison, Georgia.

Gene was a devout member of Margarets Grove Baptist Church, where he actively served as a deacon and taught Sunday school. He was married to Martha Jean Brown on February 23, 1990, in Union Point, Georgia. An avid fan of Georgia Bulldog Football, Gene also enjoyed hunting, fishing and crossword puzzles.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Coleman, and his sister, Aureida Pridgen. Survivors include his children: Holly Amanda Fricke (Carey), Sherra Heather Beavers, Glenn Coleman, Scott Coleman (Carmen), and Sheldon Coleman. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Lynn Rhodes Webb (PC) of Crawfordville, Georgia, and Lisa Rhodes Batchelor(Harold)  of Greensboro, Georgia. Gene leaves behind grandchildren: Johnny Legaspi, Teddy Coleman (Lauren), Glenn Tony Coleman, Kyle Coleman (Jessica), Sherra Ann Adams, Richard Adams, Zeb Adams (Kelly), Kaley Coleman, Amanda Beavers, Gina Lozada, Raven Beavers, Dane Cotrell and Brayden Batchelor (Hannah), twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, along with numerous other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Margarets Grove Baptist Church, located at 1791 Margarets Grove Road, Crawfordville, GA 30631, with Rev. Dennis Garner and Rev. Tommy Darracott officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
